2011-2012 Boston Chamber Orchestra Commission Competition Results
Continuing our tradition of seeking out talented composers to create new works, The Boston Chamber Orchestra announces the winners of it’s first Commission Competition.
The BCO would like to thank everyone that applied for our competition. We were greatly impressed with the high artistic level and number of entries we received. It further reaffirms our belief that there is still great music being composed today. After viewing and judging submissions from all around the world, the winners are:
1st Place: Christopher Weiss
2nd Place: Jeremy Beck
3rd Place: Ryan Chase
Additionally, to recognize the submissions which demonstrated not only high levels of artistic quality while making a powerful impression during the judging process but did not place in the top three, we have created a category to honor those whom we felt stood out.
The Special Recognition Award* recipients are:
Moon Young Ha
Justin Merritt
Vera Ivanova
Lewis Nielson
Stefan L. Smith
Matthew Tozer
Joelle Wallach
*Please note that Special Recognition Awards receive no monetary prize.
Be sure to check back with us in a few months to hear the first place winner’s new work and in the summer of 2012 for details about our next competition. Again, thank you to everyone who entered and keep composing new music!
